Reporter and Latin American partnerships coordinator

ICIJ is looking for a journalist who will help coordinate our investigative reporting and our media partners and ICIJ members in Latin America. This position will answer to the Managing Editor.

This journalist will research, write and edit independent investigative stories that hold the powerful to account and that uncover broken systems, incisively and in the public interest.  They will work with our reporting network in Latin America to identify opportunities for collaboration, to develop new story ideas and to support our media partners’ work on ICIJ investigations. This is an opportunity to independently investigate some of the most important topics of our time, to tell stories that bring startling truths to light, to optimize analysis and coverage, and to do so with a fiercely committed, award-winning team.

Principal duties and responsibilities

  • Research, report, write and edit stories as part of ICIJ’s global investigations, typically with a focus on issues relevant to Latin America.
  • Coordinate Latin American media partners taking part in ICIJ’s global investigations, including assisting with identifying partners, onboarding reporters into collaborative projects, and connecting journalists with relevant training or reporting opportunities.
  • Seek out potential new partnerships and opportunities for collaboration in Latin American journalism.
  • Work collaboratively with ICIJ’s editorial, data and fact- and legal-checking teams to ensure ICIJ’s stories comply with ICIJ’s standards.
  • Participate on ICIJ’s collaboration platforms.
  • Represent ICIJ at relevant events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and qualifications

  • Expertise in Latin American affairs
  • Minimum of 10 years professional experience in news required.
  • Portfolio of strong investigative stories preferred.
  • Experience working on collaborative reporting projects preferred.
  • Proven track record in finding stories that have high public interest, including delivering copy on deadline.
  • Fluent in Spanish and English (speech and writing) required. Portuguese preferred.

Hours of work

This is a full-time exempt position (40 hours/week). Due to the international nature of ICIJ work outside of business hours will be required.
