Richard H.P. Sia is associate editor for ICIJ and served as its chief fact-checker on the Pulitzer Prize-winning Panama Papers investigation, the Paradise Papers and Implant Files probes and many other projects. Sia previously was a managing editor of National Journal and senior editor of National Journal’s CongressDaily, where he directed special projects and coverage of defense, homeland security, government oversight and telecommunications. He has reported for The Honolulu Advertiser and The Baltimore Sun, where he was a Pulitzer Prize nominee and covered the State House in Annapolis, U.S. Congress and the Pentagon. His overseas assignments included coverage of the Persian Gulf war from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait and the U.S.-led military mission in Somalia. As Washington correspondent for the Center for Investigative Reporting, Sia won a National Press Club award and was part of a team that received an Emmy for the PBS Frontline documentary, "Hot Guns." Sia grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii, and received a B.A. degree in government with honors from Harvard University.
