The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists has added 15 new members to its roster, expanding its global network to include 175 journalists working in every region of the world.
The new members bring records of impact and accomplishment, and work in positions varying from The Guardian’s investigations unit to the first online investigative journalism nonprofit in South Korea. They have examined topics that vary from violence in Mexico’s drug war to complex financial deals that fueled the Greek economic crisis to the injuries to children resulting from body-checking in Canadian hockey.
“Our new members are brave, accomplished, and are working at the cutting edge of investigative journalism,” said ICIJ director Gerard Ryle. “They will greatly add to our ability to produce investigations that are truly global in their impact and reach.”
The new ICIJ members are:
- James Ball (Britain), data journalist for The Guardian’s investigative team
- Linton Besser (Australia), investigative reporter for Australia’s public broadcaster, the ABC
- Lars Bové (Belgium), journalist at the Belgian newspaper De Tijd
- Harvey Cashore (Canada), senior producer at the Special Investigations Unit of CBC News
- Kristof Clerix (Belgium), reporter for MO*, a Belgian monthly magazine on international affairs
- Stephen Grey (Britain), special correspondent on the global enterprise team at Reuters
- Harry Karanikas (Greece), investigative reporter and television producer
- Yong Jin Kim (Korea), co-founder and editor-in-chief of the Korea Center for Investigative Journalism
- Minna Knus-Galán (Finland), television reporter at YLE, the Finnish Broadcasting Company
- Roel Landingin (Philippines), Manila correspondent for the Financial Times and contributor to the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism.
- Aamir Latif (Pakistan), Karachi bureau chief for independent newswire Online News Network
- Frederik Obermaier (Germany), investigative reporter for Munich-based newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung
- Bastian Obermayer (Germany), reporter for the investigative unit of the Munich-based Süddeutsche Zeitung
- François Pilet (Switzerland), head of business section for weekly newspaper Le Matin Dimanche
- Marcela Turati Muñoz (Mexico), reporter for the magazine Proceso
ICIJ is a network of reporters who collaborate on in-depth, cross-border investigations, and is a project of The Center for Public Integrity. ICIJ’s work has been recognized by numerous journalism organizations, including the Overseas Press Club, Investigative Reporters and Editors, the Society of Professional Journalists and Columbia University’s John B. Oakes Award for Distinguished Environmental Journalism.
