Ewald Scharfenberg, Venezuela, is a journalist and consultant and is currently co-director of investigative news website Armando.info. He is also chief correspondent in Venezuela for Spanish daily newspaper El País.From 2006 to 2012, Scharfenberg was executive director of the Instituto Prensa y Sociedad de Venezuela (Ipys Venezuela), a nongovernmental organization that supports freedom of the press, access to public information and promotes investigative journalism in Venezuela.Previously he has held positions as editor-in-chief of Revista Producto (a Venezuelan advertising and marketing trade publication), director of Letra G (the Sunday magazine of El Globo daily newspaper), and founding editor-in-chief of Revista Exceso. He holds a university degree in Social Communication from the Universidad Central de Venezuela.Scharfenberg was a member (on behalf of Ipys Venezuela) of the World Committee, International Freedom of Expression Exchange (IFEX), a global alliance of freedom of speech monitors and advocates. From 1996 until 2006, he was the Venezuelan correspondent for Reporters Without Borders. Since 2014 he has also been a member of the jury of the Latin American Award for Investigative Journalism (Transparency International-Ipys).
