Ginna Morelo, Colombia, is an investigative journalist, editor for El Tiempo’s Data Unit, and a professor of journalism and general coordinator for the Consejo de Redacción (CdR), an organization that promotes investigative journalism in Colombia.
She has written a number of books, including Tierra de sangre, memorias de las víctimas, an investigation into the victims of the paramilitary, and Córdoba, una tierra que suena, a cultural research report on musicians. Ginna has also co-authored other titles on environmental journalism and on violence and press freedom in Mexico.
Her award-winning investigation La Ruta del Despojo documented the crimes that the Colombian right-wing death squads committed in the area where Ginna spent her entire life. She says that the armed conflict in Colombia is still a major focus of her investigations because it touches all other areas of public life.
Ginna is a three-time winner of Colombia’s highest journalism award, Premio Nacional de Periodismo Simón Bolívar, and a finalist for the Institute for Press and Society in Latin America (Ipys) award.
