Pedro Enrique Armendares, Mexico, is an independent consultant doing research, writing and editing.

Armendares was the co-founder, and later executive director of, the Periodistas de Investigación (IRE-Mexico) project, launched by the Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) in 1996.

He was an investigative reporter for the Mexico City daily newspaper La Jornada and has contributed to other Mexican and international media. Armendares was an independent correspondent in Mexico for the BBC and Public Radio International.

He is a frequent participant in journalism workshops and seminars and has taught investigative journalism at the Universidad Iberoamericana and the Monterrey TEC in Mexico City, and at the Masters Degree in Journalism at the University of Miami.

He has a bachelor’s degree in history from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and a master’s in international journalism from the University of Southern California.
