Stefan Melichar, Austria, an investigative journalist, started his career in 2006 at the daily newspaper Wiener Zeitung, where he was an economics and finance reporter. In 2012, Melichar became an investigative reporter at the news magazine NEWS. Later he headed the economy desk at NEWS.
In early 2018, Melichar joined the newly founded investigative platform Addendum. Since September 2019, he has been working for the news magazine profil.
He has covered major scandals in Austria. His emphasis is on corruption, financial crime, offshore structures, financing of political parties and tax issues.
Melichar has a strong focus on cross-border collaboration: he has been a part of ICIJ projects since 2013. He has worked on Offshore Leaks, Swiss Leaks, the Panama Papers and Paradise Papers.
He has collaborated on stories and projects with different media organizations, including Correctiv, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Rise Project, Stern, Haaretz and the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project.
