David Rowell is a senior editor at ICIJ.

Previously he was the deputy editor of The Washington Post Magazine, where he worked for nearly 25 years. Prior to that, he was an executive editor at the literary magazine DoubleTake, which was based out of the Center for Documentary Studies, in Durham, North Carolina, and won a National Magazine Award in the General Excellence category in 1998.

Stories he has edited have been re-published in The Best American Essays, Best American Short Stories, Best American Travel Writing, and Best American Sports Writing series, as well as in the Pushcart Prize and O. Henry Prize Stories anthologies. He is the author of the novel The Train of Small Mercies (2011), Wherever the Sound Takes You: Heroism and Heartbreaking in Music Making (2019), and the forthcoming Always Playing Somewhere: How Our Obsession With the Same Old Songs Ruined Us Forever.

David is based just outside of Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
